Fundraising & Events



The Shelley Centre is a Charity and staffed almost exclusively by volunteers. Nevertheless, it costs some £75,000 per annum to keep The Centre running with some of the main costs identified here (These are approximate costs) – Feed £5553, Farrier £8000Veterinary £1889, Insurance £3286, and Property & Maintenance £4000.

In order to raise funds The Centre has a Fund Raising Committee all of whom work tirelessly to ensure The Centre has adequate income to meet the needs of our Riders. Various events are organised during the year including table sales at the Hadleigh Show, entertainments, sales at The Centre and Sponsored events like the London Marathon, mountain climbs and the Long Distance Ride. The Centre also relies heavily upon the generosity of individuals, local Groups and Businesses providing cash donations as well as support through bequests or sponsorships toward the general running costs or the purchase of special tack or equipment, animal welfare or furthering Dressage training. You can make a donation of your own by sending a cheque, made payable to “The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding”, direct to the Centre, see (
Contact Us). You can also donate directly on-line by visiting and following the instructions.

For those of you who frequently make purchases via the Internet there is now an easy way that you can support The Centre and help all of our Riders, Horses and Ponies. By registering with your Retailer will donate a percentage of the price of your purchase direct to The Centre. To register, go to the site and choose ‘The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding’ as your cause to support. Once registered, to purchase an item go via the Easyfundraising site and then select your chosen Retailer to place your order. It couldn’t be easier.

The 100 Club” is also another way to support The Centre with an opportunity to win cash prizes too! This works in that you buy a single Number or multiples of Numbers at £1 each per month (Minimum 12 months per Number) with the fee being collected annually in the month when you join (e.g. One Number x 12 months x £1 = £12 per annum; Three Numbers x 12 months x £1 = £36 per annum.). You may buy as many numbers as you wish; the more we sell, the bigger the prizes! There will be a monthly draw for two cash prizes. By law, 50% of the money must go to the charity, so theoretically, if we sell 100 numbers, £50 goes to The Shelley Centre and there would be cash prizes of say, £30 & £15 (£5 per month is deducted to cover postage costs and the Christmas Bonus Draw). Obviously, this amount is dependant upon how many numbers we sell and is not limited to 100. If you are a Tax Payer, you can increase the amount of any donation by subscribing to the Gift Aided Donations scheme whereby we will receive a tax refund at the current allowable rate for every one pound that you donate. (

sponsor_pony_150wpxThe Centre also operates a “Sponsor a Pony” scheme whereby for an annual sum of as little as £25 you can select one of our horses or ponies to sponsor. You will receive a Booklet containing a photograph and details of your selected horse or pony; your name will also be put on the stable door for you to see when you visit.
